Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does it fit my door?

If your lock cylinder is of European, Swiss, or Nordic type, and the distance between the keyhole and the door framis above 30mm - then most likely yes! Read a thorough overview of requirements on our blog.

  • Does my old cylinder already work with a smart lock?

If your lock is of European, Swiss, or Nordic type, it is available to install tedee with an adapter. However, there are some conditions for your door and cylinder. You can find more information in our blog post. If your lock is European and you're not sure whether to use an adapter or replace a cylinder, you can find the comparison of both setups here.

  • How to choose the right hardware for my door?

First, you need to identify your door's lock type. Then you need to decide if you're getting a new Euro-profile cylinder or using an adapter for European, Nordic, or Swiss lock. You can find all hardware information and step-by-step instructions here.

When mounting tedee on European lock, check the comparison of cylinder and adapter installation in this article. If you decide to get a new cylinder, this blog post guides you how to choose one from five of our variants.

  • Can I install it all myself?

Yes, here you'll find video tutorials that make it quick and easy. However, take notice that with a Euro-type adapter, you will need to cut your key - you can do it at a locksmith shop near you.

  • Can I still open and close the door with a key after installing the tedee lock?

Our lock essentially functions as a doorknob. This way, the door can always be opened from the inside by manually turning the lock. Likewise, you can always open with a standard key from the outside. Just make sure your cylinder features a safety clutch. All cylinders available on our website have this option.
