Is it safe?

Yes. It's approved by independent AV-Test as a secure smart home product. tedee uses a multi-level encryption mechanism and asymmetric keys for cloud authentication. The Bluetooth connection is handled through a secure protocol.  Sounds complicated, and it is. You can compare these solutions to online banking protection.

What if my short-term rental visitor is not into smart tech?

You can still handle traditional keys for use from the outside. On the inside, tedee might work as a standard manual knob. Or maybe it's easier for them to just enter with a PIN on a keypad? We suggest that a couple of days before your guests' arrival, you send them a message with short instructions to install an app or get familiar with a keypad. You can create this notice once and use it with multiple bookings.

Does it fit my door?

If your lock cylinder is of European, Nordic, or Swiss-type, and the distance between the keyhole and the door frame is above 30mm - then most likely yes! Watch a quick checklist video here or read a thorough overview of requirements.

What do I need to buy?

tedee smart lock is the start. You need to install it on your door with dedicated hardware: a compatible cylinder or adapter. For comfortable rental management, it's worth getting two add-ons. tedee smart bridge connects your lock to Wi-Fi, so you can control and share the access remotely. Pairing these with a tedee keypad enables unlocking the door without an app – just using a PIN.

Do I have to manage it myself?

There are three access levels to a smart lock: owner, administrator, and guest. The permission restricts what users can do with your device. Suppose you pass the administration of your rental to a rental agency. In that case, you can simply grant administrator access to your agent. They can control all settings and access sharing – but you can always revoke the authorization.
