Tedee Now Works with the Ajax Security Ecosystem

The introduction of the Tedee Dry Contact module enables the integration of Tedee PRO and Tedee GO smart locks with advanced security setups, such as the Ajax alarm ecosystem.

Tedee has expanded its smart lock capabilities by integrating with the Ajax security ecosystem, offering enhanced security and automation features. With the introduction of the Tedee Dry Contact module, Tedee PRO and Tedee GO smart locks can now seamlessly connect with Ajax’s wireless relay controllers, providing a reliable and versatile solution for modern security needs. This integration allows users to combine the dependability of Ajax systems with the flexibility of Tedee’s wireless, retrofit smart locks, offering the best of both worlds.

What is Ajax?

Ajax Systems is an international technology company and Europe’s largest developer and manufacturer of security systems with smart home capabilities. Pioneering innovations like Jeweller, Wings, and OS Malevich, along with numerous hardware and software integrations, are the driving force behind the company’s global recognition. Offering a diverse range of over 135 wireless and wired devices, Ajax provides comprehensive security solutions for both indoor and outdoor settings. Ajax safeguards the security of more than 2.5 million users spanning 187 countries.

The ecosystem revolves around central Ajax hubs, which aggregate various protection devices and sensors using both wired and wireless technologies. One method for securing access points with Ajax is through a proven relay mechanism. The Ajax Relay Jeweller is a controller that connects wirelessly to the hub to receive commands, which are configured via a cloud-based platform and management dashboard.

It then transmits locking and unlocking orders to the wired electronic door lock. This solution offers a unique combination of an easily expandable wireless infrastructure and the reliability of a wired connection between the relay controller and the lock.

What is the Challenge?

Although the Ajax Relay Jeweller controller connects to the alarm hub wirelessly, it must be powered and wired-connected to a relay-controlled device.

By default, a protected door lock in the Ajax ecosystem is based on device combination:

  • Central Ajax hub, integrating all Ajax-compatible products at a property.
  • Ajax Relay Jeweller controller connects to the hub wirelessly.
  • At the same time, relay controller is wired to a power source and the electronic door lock.
  • Electronic door lock is installed on a door and wired to the Ajax Relay Jeweller.

How Tedee Works with Ajax

Tedee PRO and Tedee GO are wireless retrofit smart locks compatible with various local door hardware standards. These products bring keyless door unlocking—using a smartphone app and other methods—to existing door locks without the need for extensive hardware replacements or wiring installations.

Integrating Tedee with the Ajax ecosystem provides the best of both worlds: the reliability of a security system and the versatile compatibility of Tedee smart locks with their wireless, retrofit installation.

Using Tedee smart locks with the Tedee Dry Contact module enables easier installation of wireless smart locks, without extensive door hardware replacements or running electrical cables to the door lock. The only technical requirement is that the Tedee Dry Contact module is installed within Bluetooth range of Tedee PRO or Tedee GO.

As a result, the alternative setup using Tedee devices can look like this:

  • Central Ajax hub integrates all Ajax-compatible products at a property.
  • Ajax Relay Jeweller controller is wired to the Tedee Dry Contact module and power source.
  • Tedee GO or Tedee PRO smart lock is wirelessly installed on the indoor side of the door lock.

The Tedee Dry Contact module, connected to the Ajax relay controller, communicates with the smart lock via Bluetooth, wirelessly relaying locking and unlocking requests from the wired Ajax controller.

Tedee Bridge is not required. All configuration and management are enclosed within the Ajax ecosystem and app. A property owner or administrator should have access to the Tedee app for regular device maintenance: firmware updates, recalibration, and other features.

How Does a Smart Lock Work with an Alarm Installation?

Integrating Tedee GO or Tedee PRO with the Ajax ecosystem offers advanced security features and automation capabilities:

  • Automatic door locking and unlocking, synced with arming or disarming the alarm.
  • Integration with other security devices allows for automatic door locking when motion detectors or window sensors are triggered.
  • Access schedules can automatically lock and unlock a smart lock, following a preset timetable.
  • Connection to buttons and switches provides an additional control method.
  • Alarm scenarios can be implemented, providing support in emergency situations, such as automatically unlocking the door when CO concentration is detected or in the event of evacuation.
